Description
Magnesium
Magnesium, an abundant mineral in the body, is naturally present in many foods, added to other food products, available as a dietary supplement, and present in some medicines (such as antacids and laxatives). Magnesium is a cofactor in more than 300 enzyme systems that regulate diverse biochemical reactions in the body, including protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, and blood pressure regulation [1-3]. Magnesium is required for energy production, oxidative phosphorylation, and glycolysis. It contributes to the structural development of bone and is required for the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and the antioxidant glutathione. Magnesium also plays a role in the active transport of calcium and potassium ions across cell membranes, a process that is important to nerve impulse conduction, muscle contraction, and normal heart rhythm [3].
Vitamin D
Vitamin D promotes calcium absorption in the gut and maintains adequate serum calcium and phosphate concentrations to enable normal mineralization of bone and to prevent hypocalcemic tetany. It is also needed for bone growth and bone remodeling by osteoblasts and osteoclasts [1,2]. Without sufficient vitamin D, bones can become thin, brittle, or misshapen. Vitamin D sufficiency prevents rickets in children and osteomalacia in adults [1]. Together with calcium, vitamin D also helps protect older adults from osteoporosis.
Vitamin D has other roles in the body, including modulation of cell growth, neuromuscular and immune function, and reduction of inflammation
NIH Office of Dietary Supplements
This massage oil is specially formulated for counteracting the effects of today’s fast paced stressful lifestyle. Magnesium is easily depleted by stress and poor diet. Vitamin D is low in many individuals due to lack of sun exposure as well as increased toxic load that puts extra stress on the liver and kidneys where Vitamin D is made. The herbs used in the product help to adapt to physical stress and calm the mind.
Directions
This massage can be done daily. However, if you don't have time you can do once or twice a week.
You can put the bottle in the sink in warm water first to warm the oil.
The massage should be done before the shower. Start with the scalp. Apply enough to get into the scalp and moisturize the hair. Lightly massage the scalp with the whole hand (not the fingertips). Then apply the Oil on the face and stroke downwards lightly. Then the neck and shoulders and down the arms. Do clockwise circles on the joints and downward strokes on the long bones. Do not apply to the chest or over the heart. Apply on the stomach in 7 clockwise circles. Apply to the low back and hips, down the legs, knees, calves and feet. You may give extra attention to the ears and the feet as circulation in these areas is less.
If you feel dry in the arms and legs, you may apply a little oil on those areas independently of the above massage.
